THE NATIONAL HEROES (WIDOWS PENSIONS) ACT

[Date of Commencement: 1st April, 1972]

Act 11 of 1974.

1   Short title

   This Act may be cited as the National Heroes (Widows Pensions) Act.

2   Interpretation

   (1) In this Act-

   "National Hero" means a person whose name is set out in the Second Schedule to the National Honours and Awards Act or a person upon whom the honour of National Hero is conferred pursuant to section 6 of that Act;

   "public service" means any service in relation to which emoluments of any kind are payable out of the Consolidated Fund or otherwise out of moneys provided by Parliament and includes service with a Parish Council or with the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation or any corporation established directly by statute.

   (2) In this Act reference to a widow shall, in the case of a female National Hero, be deemed to include reference to a widower and cognate expressions shall be construed accordingly.
