THE TOURIST SHOPPING ACT

1   Short title

   This Act may be cited as the Tourist Shopping Act.

2   Interpretation

   In this Act-

   "crafts market" means any premises declared by the Minister by order to be a crafts market in any district, village or town;

   "curio shop" means a shop selling curios and approved by the Minister by instrument in writing as a curio shop for the purposes of this Act;

   "prohibited period" means any period during which, by virtue of the provisions of any of the enactments specified in the Schedule, all or any of the following activities are Prohibited; namely-

   (a)   the opening of any market or shop;

   (b)   the selling of articles therein;

   (c)   the employment of persons therein;

   "tourist shop" means a shop licensed to sell to tourists in-bond goods or goods imported at a special low rate of duty, and curios.

3   Trading permitted during prescribed periods

   (1) During such periods as the Minister may from time to time, by order, prescribe, it shall be lawful in any area specified in such order-

   (a)   for any crafts market, tourist shop or curio shop to be open for the transaction of business; and

   (b)   for any person to sell or to be employed by other persons in selling therein, notwithstanding that such crafts market, tourist shop or curio shop is open for a period which includes the whole or any part of a prohibited period.

   (2) Where any crafts market or curio shop is open for the transaction of business during a prohibited period, there shall be sold in such crafts market or curio shop during such period only such articles as may be prescribed by the Minister by order.
